About:

I hold an MPhil from UCT in Archaeology (History and Archaeology of the Western Cape; 2012), having specialised in archaeological analysis of historic built fabric and forms. Prior to that, my BA (Hons), obtained from UCT with distinction in 1999, was focused on analysis of depictions of human figures in the rock art of the Western Cape.

I have worked in the field of Cultural Resource Management (CRM) since 2003, conducting fieldwork and compiling Impact Assessments. I also spent 4.5 years working for the South African Heritage Resources Agency (SAHRA), initially as a heritage officer, reviewing and commenting on Heritage Impact Assessments. This experience has afforded me insight into the challenges facing both the heritage practitioners and the Heritage Authorities in adequately managing heritage resources across the country. I was promoted to Manager of the National Inventory at SAHRA, where I was responsible for the maintenance of the South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) and the populating and expansion of the National Inventory, achieved through the digitisation of heritage collections at museums, universities and other repositories.

I sit on the Association of Southern African Professional Archaeologists (ASAPA) Executive Council, and am co-Chair of ASAPA’s CRM subcommittee. I have been a member of ASAPA since 2008 and hold CRM accreditation in rock art, coastal shell middens, Stone Age archaeology and grave relocation. I have been a member of the Association of Professional Heritage Practitioners (APHP) since 2015, a member of the Southern African Museums Association (SAMA) since 2013, and am currently serving as treasurer of the Heritage Association of Southern Africa (HASA). I am Chair of the Stanford Heritage Committee (SHC) and Vice-Chair of the Overstrand Heritage and Aesthetics Committee (OHAC).

I currently work as a freelance heritage practitioner and archaeological consultant, drafting Heritage Impact Assessments, Archaeological Impact Assessments, Heritage Inventories, heritage scoping reports and heritage components for Strategic Environmental Assessments, Environmental Management Frameworks and similar planning initiatives.
